We have neighbours who don’t speak the same language and don’t have the same rules in many ways. Think that two so different cities like Paris and London are just 2 hours trip from one to each other. Americans are not used to such variety of languages, cultures and often don’t realize that some things can work diffently abroad. I don’t make a comparison between Europe and America, both share anyways same fondamental values. But in many details, things are ruled differently, and american realize when overseas in Europe that things can be as efficient, confortable or pleasant than at home. That’s explain this reverse culture shock.

Personally, it’s what makes me want to travel to even more places. Living in LA, I realize how many people here take it for granted how good we have it here. I’ve been all across the U.S. and I feel like the same applies. Then you venture off to a countryside of China, for example, and it’s humbling. That humbling experience always keeps me traveling and to expand my horizons :). Great post!

Yeah. I now know what being depressed feels like…….:-/

I lived in England for 6 months and the moment my plane hit the ground in Ohio I got depressed. I also start every other sentence with, “In England..” I’m heading back for a visit tomorrow (and with my boyfriend this time) so that might help ease my “homesickness.” 🙂
