They are good travelers and we have lots of experience camping and long yearly trips to Mexico. Any suggestions on what kind of backpack might be best for our kids?

It took me a long time to realize what I needed to wear and bring in order to keep my back healthy on the road. I made the mistake of getting a “convertible” backpack/duffle bag on my first trip to Europe. Also packed way WAY too much about 9 years ago. Never going back to that again. Like you suggested, having a frame is critical.

On the Daypack subject, Cotopaxi has a GREAT backpack that folds up to the size of a pamphlet. Really easy to carry as luggage instead of limiting yourself with backpacks that have removable daypacks.

Yeah, a pack cover should work. Some airports will give you a tray to put your bag in so it won’t touch the conveyor belt. Alternatively, you can wrap your bag in two luggage straps as this will help secure any loose straps. Have a great trip!

So I plan on backpacking around Europe for a couple of weeks this summer and I already have a top loading backpack and now I’m kind of worried about straps getting caught… Do you think a pack cover would prevent this from happening?

Thanks so much!

We are going to be doing a combo of hiking, traveling by train, camping, and hostels. so because of this we need bigger packs to carry all our gear (tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, stoves, ect) my wife was gona carry her i think it was either a 50l or 60l and I was thinking of buying a 75L or even 80. Am I on the right track with this thinking or not?
