I’m going on a weekend trip to Barcelona from Madrid where I au pair for a family. The dad has told me that I shouldn’t carry a purse or a backpack with me, but I’ve noticed that he tends to be overcautious about everything and not having something to carry phone/sunscreen in isn’t a super attractive option.

Did you do anything in particular to try and protect yourself from pickpockets when you were visiting Barcelona?
