I currently have a Western Mountain Sports pack that’s very light, but durable, has great storage/pockets, sternum/waists straps for stability, and a cover over the top zipper that helps with rain coverage and anti-theft. But the one feature that’s turned out to be a deal-breakeris the water bottle holders on the sides. They aren’t deep enough and my water bottle falls out when I bend over or get up quickly to get off the bus, etc. Of the ones that you reviewed, or have seen since the review, which daypack do you think best has all these features? I’m not a hard-core hiker, just want a good pack for shorter day hikes and sight-seeing when traveling. Thanks for your help!

I got the rei crestrail 65 for women. I don’t visibly see anywhere I could strap it on to any suggestion for easy travel in Europe so I don’t have to physical lug two separate backpacks but still have a day backpack to carry my laptop in that is safe against theft?

Now, I’m kind of torn between a couple different bags. I’m going backpacking in Europe during the summer for a couple months and need a proper bag to take with me. So I’m trying to decide between getting the Kelty Redwing 50L Backpack with the Travelon anti-theft Daypack or just go with the Osprey Farpoint 55 Travel Backpack which “comes with” a daypack. If I get the Kelty+Travelon it’s a little cheaper and I get the safety features of the daypack, however I like the look of the Osprey better and the conciseness of it as I would have to put the Travelon inside the Kelty. Does anyone here have much experience with these bags and can offer some insight? Any help is appreciated.

I like the idea of these as they can just become an additional part of your larger pack rather than using up space inside the large backpack. What do you think of these packs? Do you think it would be better to just buy a separate day pack?

My old one has seen better days, and I prefer that style to a backpack.

Thanks a lot! The patch idea is great.
I may have been over thinking the issue a bit, but as it is an olive-green army pack with the letters U.S. painted over it, I wanted an expert’s opinion. A few patches here and there, and I’ll be able to use the backpack without worries

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If it’s comfortable and it holds everything you need then I would just use it. Save yourself a $100 by not buying a new backpack. You can always throw a few patches of various European countries on there to make it look like you’ve been traveling a lot.
