I’m heading there in a few months!

I’ve never thought about cooking in a hostel, but may possibly try to do it next time. I’m usually spending my time exploring the city and their street food to get a sense of their culture. I love your…”eat before you get too hungry”. Lol! It sounds almost too easy, but it’s totally something that happens! It happened to me several times, and I often have to stop to wherever is closer to grab a bite!

Totally agree with your point about trying to find the ‘lunch specials’. It works well in Europe, much like the rest of the world too. Thanks 🙂 Rachel

Except maybe one you can work with before you even leave… picking a country where your money goes further, like a 10:1 ratio, then when you are being careful about your spending and making smarter choices, you end up going back home with more than you counted on. It’d be great to make a list of all the places that someone from the USA or Europe (or areas with similar currency) could go that would be budget friendly where you don’t have to scrimp as much.

You just about covered everything I thought of, when I saw the title. Perhaps a deli/butcher/cheese shop can be included (although they might fall under the grocery store category). Many large shopping stores (department stores) have their own cafes with very reasonably priced meals. Oh, and don’t forget bakeries!
