Description
English: White-rumped vulture (Gyps bengalensis) in Bangladesh.
বাংলা: দেশী শকুন দক্ষিণ ও দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব এশিয়ার স্থানীয় পাখি। এরা মূলত ভারত, বাংলাদেশ, নেপাল, পাকিস্তান, মিয়ানমার, থাইল্যান্ড ও লাওসের বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে দেখা যায়। বাংলাদেশে একসময় প্রচুর সংখ্যায় দেখা যেত, তবে বর্তমানে এটি অত্যন্ত বিরল ও মহাবিপন্ন। IUCN Status অনুসারে এটি Critically Endangered (মহাবিপন্ন)। প্রধানত নিচু সমতল ভূমি, বনাঞ্চল, খোলা ঘাসজমি, এবং গ্রামীণ ও শহরতলির কাছাকাছি বাস করে। প্রায়শই বড় গাছের উপর বা পরিত্যক্ত ভবনে বাসা বাঁধে। মৃত প্রাণীর সন্ধানে খোলা চারণভূমি ও আবাসিক এলাকার কাছাকাছি ঘোরাফেরা করে। এরা প্রধানত মৃত প্রাণীর মাংস খায়। গবাদিপশুর মৃতদেহই প্রধান খাবার। আবর্জনার ভাগাড়েও খাদ্য অনুসন্ধান করে। এরা সাধারণত বড় গাছের ডালে বাসা বানায়। স্ত্রী শকুন একবারে একটি ডিম পাড়ে। ডিম ফোটার সময়কাল ৪৫-৫০ দিন। বাচ্চা ৩-৪ মাসে উড়তে শেখে এবং ধীরে ধীরে স্বাবলম্বী হয়। এদের জীবনকাল সাধারণত ৩০-৪০ বছর পর্যন্ত হতে পারে।

ছবিটি আমি সুন্দরবন থেকে তুলেছিলাম। নদীর ধারে একটি মৃত গবাদি পশুর পাশে এরা জড়ো হয়েছিল। আমি এবং আমার অন্য ভ্রমনসঙ্গীগন একটা ছোট নৌকা করে যতদূর সম্ভব তীরের কাছাকাছি গিয়ে ছবিটি তুলেছিলাম।

ছবিটির শাটার ছিল ১/২৫০০ সে, এপার্চার ৭.১ এবং আইসো ১১০০।
